Striped
Striped is an expression of Kandinsky’s own artistic growth and experience after being exiled from Germany in 1933. Kandinsky uses a Constructivist back and white background, showing a clear distinction between the polarizing colors. Large colorful organic forms and smaller black and white geometric shapes are layered on top of the background creating a sense of spatial depth. This work can be seen as a transition between the rigid geometric shapes he painted within Germany, to the introduction of organic forms influenced by biomorphic forms. The difference of colors between the geometric and organic forms also points to this newfound influence that is seen in many of his later works.
