The Corn Poppy
Kees van Dongen was a Dutch painter who was associated with the Fauve Movement. The Corn Poppy represents his popularity as a portraitist of high society women and was a member of an Avant-guard wave of painters that included Henri Rousseau, Robert Delaunay, and Edouard Vuillard. Van Dogen famously remarked, “Painting is the most beautiful of lies”.
